Elementary and Middle School Financial Education
A firm financial foundation begins when children are young and builds over time. This lesson will focus on financial content that is appropriate for elementary and middle school students, along with free curricula for these grade levels. The featured resources will include ones intended for use with language arts and math instruction as well as standalone lessons. This session is appropriate for grade K to 8 educators and administrators.
Using Board and Card Games to Enhance Financial Education
From tried and true favorites to newer games, this session will explore ways to use games in your classroom to both engage students and spark rich conversations. Hilary Hunt, director of the Making Cents Project, will lead this session with ideas for incorporating hands-on games in your classroom, including some that can be printed or use budget-friendly basics like dice and playing cards. This session is appropriate for 6-12 educators.
Proposed Personal Finance Standards and Newly Legislated Personal Finance Course Requirement for PA
Get the latest information on new K-12 personal finance standards proposed by the State Board of Education, along with preliminary information about the newly legislated personal finance graduation requirement. This webinar helped answer questions about both the newly proposed standards and the graduation mandate. In addition, participants were asked to weigh in on what supports they believe would be most beneficial if/when these standards are implemented. The audience was K-12 educators and administrators.
Take Charge Today
Take Charge Today is a free financial education curriculum from the University of Arizona that features classroom lessons, active learning tools, and more. Join one of these sessions for an overview of their resources and find out what’s new, including a new taxes-themed escape room, student workbooks that are compatible with Google Classroom and Canvas, and an all-new entrepreneurship unit. This session will feature Lisa Bender from Take Charge Today and is appropriate for grade 6-12 educators, including guidance counselors.
